Since Shanghai Disney Resort’s Grand Opening in 2016, Donald Duck has made hundreds of thousands of Chinese guests of all generations smile, laugh, and quack, with a strong nostalgic resonance for the character that many of them grew up with. Back in 1936, Donald Duck appeared in a comic in The China Press alongside Walt Disney’s other cartoon characters, all offering their Christmas greetings. Soon after, Donald Duck began to appear in a number of cartoons and comic books throughout China and became an endearing character thanks to his adorable fiery temper. In 1986, Donald Duck made his TV debut with Mickey Mouse on Chinese television, in a 30-minute long show broadcast every week on the China Central Television Network. Donald-themed merchandise as well as food and beverage items are loved by guests, and last summer’s appearance of a giant floating Donald Duck on Wishing Star Lake soon became a must-visit landmark.
