Resort expands Disney Fun Houses to include children at children’s hospitals in Wuxi and NingboMay 29,2019

Shanghai, May 29, 2019 – Building on the tradition of nurturing and empowering children and their families throughout China, and as a highlight of this year’s Children’s Day celebrations, Shanghai Disney Resort today announced Lin Chiling as Shanghai Disney Resort’s first ever VoluntEARS Celebrity Ambassador. As part of this new role, Lin Chiling will support the resort’s continuous efforts to foster volunteerism in the local community and make a positive impact on society. Shanghai Disney Resort’s Children’s Day celebrations also included the opening of two new Disney Fun Houses, one at Wuxi Children’s Hospital in Jiangsu province and the other at the Ningbo Women and Children’s Hospital in Zhejiang province - extending the resort’s commitment to sharing happiness and joy to even more children and their families across China.

“Lin Chiling shares the same deep commitment to caring for the community as we do at Shanghai Disney Resort, because of this, we are incredibly honored to introduce her as the resort’s first ever VoluntEARS Celebrity Ambassador,” said Murray King, Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, Shanghai Disney Resort. “We look forward to working with Lin Chiling to help more children, families, and disadvantaged groups by delivering the magic and happiness of Disney to them, and by continuing our commitment to volunteerism and promoting the overall well-being of the community.”
As part of her first official appearance for Shanghai Disney Resort’s VoluntEARS program, Lin Chiling hosted a Disney Reading Together program, joined by Disney VoluntEARS, earlier today at the resort’s Disneytown. As Lin Chiling read Toy Story to around 30 children and their families from Disney Fun Houses all across China, beloved Disney·Pixar characters Woody and Jessie made a surprise appearance, turning the venue into a vibrant reading room where everyone enjoyed quality family time together. Woody and Jessie also joined Lin Chiling and Disney voluntEARS in dancing to the music, bringing smiles and happiness to children at a difficult time in their lives.

Shanghai Disney Resort’s continuous support of local communities is rooted in its understanding of the tremendous value volunteer activities provide to different parts of society. Because of this, Cast Members at the resort are encouraged to volunteer their time, helping with community services for the needy and spreading hope through a wide variety of Disney VoluntEARS programs. Through its notable partnership with Lin Chiling, Shanghai Disney Resort has once again reaffirmed its commitment to volunteerism, and as such, Lin Chiling will host a wide range of Disney VoluntEARS activities throughout the year, with her participation expected to inspire more guests and Cast Members to give back to society and create a better tomorrow for the community we all share.
The children who participated in today’s Disney Reading Together program were brought together from 9 Disney Fun Houses across China. These children, together with their families and nurses from the hospitals, were invited by Shanghai Disney Resort to celebrate a Children’s Day full of magic and happiness across Shanghai Disneyland and the rest of the resort.
The Disney Fun House program was founded in 2016 when The Walt Disney Company made a USD $3.1 million (RMB 20 million) donation to commemorate of the grand opening of Shanghai Disney Resort. Since then, Disney-themed playrooms have opened in children’s hospitals in nearly 20 Chinese cities. The inviting rooms are sprinkled with special Disney touches and bring hope and laughter to sick children. The donation is administered by the Shanghai Charity Foundation for children’s hospitals in and around Shanghai, and by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation for hospitals across the rest of China.
